In mid-February, CEER representatives of the EU4Energy Programme visited Baku in Azerbaijan, continuing their agenda for 2023 and reflecting on key milestones from 2022. We are also thrilled to have received the news that the CEER Training Academy's application to join the EU Pact For Skills was accepted!

ACER and CEER release joint response to the European Commission's EU electricity market design public consultation
The EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) and CEER welcomed the European Commission’s attention to long-term markets as the key enabler for investment stability and affordability for consumers. The joint response comprises replies to nearly all of the Commission’s questions as well as an Annex, where ACER and CEER delve deeper into three elements that are subject to consultation. They also highlight aspects of the electricity market design framework that were not addressed by the Commission in its consultation, yet could have a significant impact on electricity market functioning.

This month, CEER received the fantastic news that the CEER Training Academy application to join the EU Pact For Skills was approved! The Pact For Skills is an initiative by the European Commission to develop Europe's workforce. We are proud to be joining the European Commission and stakeholders engaged in upskilling and reskilling for a more resilient European workforce. On 2 February 2023, CEER and the Energy Community Regulatory Board (ECRB) held a webinar to present the 7th Benchmarking Report on the Quality of Electricity and Gas Supply! This flagship publication provides in-depth surveys and analyses of the quality of electricity and gas supply from 39 countries across Europe.
Over 100 participants joined us on the day, where the key findings and recommendations were highlighted. A follow-up webinar will be organised in the spring for selected stakeholders to give feedback on the report and for an in-depth Q&A session.
"Lights on women" opportunity for female energy experts
Are you a woman as well as an energy expert? The European University Institute (EUI) in Florence has recently launched "Lights on women", a new database of women experts in energy – in the broadest sense, which also includes issues of energy project financing, carbon markets etc. If you are working on an energy-related topic, you might consider taking seven minutes to register. This can lead to invitations for speaking engagements at conferences and calls from journalists.
CEER representatives of EU4Energy Programme visit Baku
In mid-February, CEER representatives of the EU4Energy Programme visited Baku, Azerbaijan. Several meetings were held in the framework of the EU4Energy Programme Phase II – Promoting the Clean Energy Transition in the Eastern Partnership Countries.
Programme support in 2023, as well as key achievements and milestones of 2022 which contributed to the development of the energy sector in Azerbaijan were among the topics discussed.
The SolarPower Summit 2023 will bring together key energy players to discuss the major strategic, political and market developments that are getting Europe ready for solar. Charles Esser, CEER Secretary General will contribute to the session on "Energy Systems Getting Ready for Solar". More details here.
The Florence School of Regulation is hosting this debate which will explore the current outlook for European gas markets and will identify which are the priority actions and initiatives to be undertaken in the next months to ensure security of supply to Europe. CEER President Annegret Groebel will contribute to the panel discussion on the day. More details here.
Held only once every three years, WFER is the leading international conference on energy regulation. It brings together key energy industry players, high-level policymakers, academics and regulators to engage in strategic discussions on different regulatory schemes. Because of political and security developments in Peru, the 8th WFER has been postponed but is still likely to take place by the end of March 2024, if not sooner.More details here.
