Annegret Groebel re-appointed as CEER President!
Annegret Groebel has been re-appointed as President of the Council of European Energy Regulators for a third term. Dr Groebel will continue to steer CEER’s work in delivering our consumer-centred strategy, "Empowering consumers for the energy transition." Additionally, Christine Materazzi-Wagner (E-Control) and Veli-Pekka Saajo are re-appointed as Chair of the Electricity Working Group and Chair of the Distributions Systems Working Group respectively. Esther Espeja Bragulat (CNMC) and Dr Groebel (BNetzA) are also re-appointed as Co-Chairs of the Market Integrity and Transparency Working Group.

Market Design, Green Gases, and Consumers at Centre of 2023 Annual Conference
On 30 November, industry experts, policymakers, researchers and regulators from all over Europe gathered to discuss long-term energy issues and challenges at the CEER Annual Conference 2023. After an overview on the electricity market design reform proposal by DG ENER Deputy Director-General Mechthild Wörsdörfer, discussions focused on electricity market design challenges and the role of decarbonised gases in achieving a sustainable energy system.

CEER Co-Chair of Customers & Retail Markets at BEUC workshop
On 7 December, Co-Chair of the CEER Customers and Retail Markets Working Group, Natalie McCoy spoke at the BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation workshop on ‘Boosting consumer engagement in the energy transition’. Natalie highlighted that diverse consumer needs require regulators to enhance the overall comprehensibility of regulatory processes. The role of regulators should extend to simplifying processes for consumers, particularly for those who may be less actively engaged.
 
EU4Energy
OZZY the Hamster travels to Armenia
The second phase of the EU4Energy renewable energy campaign, featuring the already well-known character Ozzy, kicked-off on 12 December in schools in Armenia in cooperation with EU Neighbours East. The campaign aims to introduce renewable energy to schoolchildren through presentations and an interactive Do-It-Yourself workshop. In 2024, the campaign will gradually cover other schools in all Eastern Partnership Countries.

Stories of Women Leaders in Energy: Carolina Novac
Carolina Novac currently serves as the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy in the Republic of Moldova, focusing on decarbonisation, renewables, energy efficiency, and the energy transition.

Carolina spent five years working in Brussels in the gas and electricity sector before returning to Moldova in February 2022, at a time of significant upheavals, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the energy crisis.

She shares her story in the latest addition to the EU4Energy Women In Energy blog, where she contributes to the "Stories of Women Leaders in Energy" series.

CEER experts visit Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia
On 18-19 December, in the framework of EU4Energy, CEER experts conducted meetings addressing energy poverty and providing information on retail market monitoring at the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia. Jana Haasová, Co-Chair of CEER’s Customers and Retail Markets Working Group and Alexander Linov, Vice-Chair of CEER Legal Affairs Committee shared their experience on vulnerable consumer issues and on staying in accordance with EU requirements and best practices.

Our training programmes focus on the current challenges that energy regulators are facing, covering the latest developments and new frameworks in the energy sector.

Wide-ranging topics will be covered to deliver high-quality courses on the practice of regulation and job-related skills for regulatory staff. Certain courses will be open to the public so that the participation of non-regulators will be welcomed in those courses.
