On Tuesday 20 October, from 13:30 to 15:00 CET, the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) held its annual Customer Conference online to present the new “2030 Vision for Energy Consumers” jointly drafted with the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC). The CEER Customer Conference is part of CEER’s continued customer-focused activities. This annual event gives the wider public, and consumer representatives in particular, a voice in Brussels in the presence of high-level speakers from the European institutions, industry, think tanks, academics and regulators.
CEER and BEUC launched a 2020 Vision for Europe’s energy customers in 2012. Its core principles – reliability, affordability, simplicity, protection and empowerment – are timeless and universal. We are pleased that this consumer-centric lens is now reflected in Europe’s energy laws.
Looking ahead towards 2030 and the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality objectives, with new technologies and policies emerging, we envision a future where effective policies and frameworks will have ensured that consumer rights are promoted and protected, whilst delivering the energy and climate objectives. We have updated our Vision for Energy Consumers to ensure no one is left behind in the energy transition.
