The European Union Promotes Empowerment of Energy Consumers in the Eastern Partnership Countries

The Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) and the Energy Community Secretariat (EnCS) are jointly hosting a two-day regional workshop on Consumer Protection and Empowerment in Brussels, Belgium, from 12 to 13 March, 2025. This regional workshop is organised as part of the EU4Energy Programme, "Promoting the Clean Energy Transition in the Eastern Partnership Countries."

The event brings together energy sector representatives from the Eastern Partnership countries with the primary objective of improving the understanding of National Regulatory Authority (NRA) staff and market participants regarding the essential components of consumer protection and empowerment in both the European Union and the Energy Community.

Through the latest legislative developments, NRAs are responsible for enforcing new regulations granting consumers numerous rights and ensuring that they receive accurate and transparent information, enabling them to make informed choices about their energy usage.

Additionally, the responsibilities of NRAs are expanding to include complaint handling and resolution of disputes related to various emerging issues in the energy market. Therefore, this event will introduce participants to the best practices from the EU and Energy Community concerning the implementation of consumer protection frameworks.

Funded by the European Union, the EU4Energy programme is a collaborative effort between the Energy Community Secretariat, the Council of European Energy Regulators, and the International Energy Agency.
