CEER Consumer Focus Event 2026: Transparency, Trust and Information
On 20 May 2026, CEER hosted its annual Consumer Focus Event in Brussels, in collaboration with the European Commission (DG ENER), bringing together regulators, policymakers, consumer organisations and industry on the theme of Fostering Consumer Engagement: Transparency, Trust and Information.
Following opening remarks by CEER Secretary General Bram Claeys and a keynote from Alejandro Ulzurrun, Head of Unit B.1, DG ENER, European Commission, three panel sessions explored the key challenges facing energy consumers today. Discussions covered regulatory initiatives to improve consumer awareness and market functioning, enforcement action against unfair distance selling practices, and the transparency and comparability of energy contracts — including the particular needs of vulnerable consumers.
Concrete examples from Greece, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and beyond illustrated both the progress made and the work still ahead. A consistent message emerged: well-designed rules, effective enforcement and genuinely accessible information are the foundation of consumer trust in energy markets.
CEER thanks all speakers, panellists and participants for their valuable contributions.
